John Beach, Tom Burns, Larry Hayes, and John Norstad
The Viking's Legends Series continues tonight with Mississippi Driftwood featuring West Bank music legends John Beach, Larry Hayes, Tom Burns and John Norstad. Authentic old school blues from four guys who have been at it since the dawn of the first blues revival.
Keyboardist John Beach started his career in a Texas band with Dallas Taylor, formerly of Crosby, Still, Nash & Young. Say the name Bonnie Raitt and we have a local connection. John appeared on her first album, which recorded was in the Twin Cities and engineered by the legendary Dave Ray. Beach also did studio work with Raitt and arranged piano introductions. He was keyboardist for Willie & The Bumblebees. His credits are long and include work with Jo Jo Williams, Dave Ray, Big George Jackson, Blackburn-Beach Band and many others.
Guitarist and songwriter Larry Hayes gained fame as founding member of Lamont Cranston Band. He also worked with and contributed to songs by the legendary Blues Brothers Band featuring Dan Akryod and John Belushi.
Harmonica wizard Tom Burns is a member of the MN Blues Hall of Fame and played with Lazy Bill Lucas, the Joel Johnson Band, Blue Diamonds, and Queen Sylvia.
John Norstad was the long-time drummer for the Joel Johnson Band and worked with the Blue Diamonds and Lazy Bill Lucas.
